Ann Hess Pottery
Hand crafted pottery. A pleasure for eye and hand. Designed and tested for function.
Would you believe solar fired pottery? Maybe not. But believe roof mounted solar cells that provide the electricity for home, studio and kiln. I am working to be green and sustainable.
All glazes are lead and barium free. My degrees in chemistry guide me in safe use of glaze materials. The base glazes in my pottery have been used and tested for over 20 years.
How do I retire from what I love to do? I do what I enjoy doing. So my work is moving in new directions as I explore techniques. I have collected clay from well drilling at my church in Christiansburg and shale from Mt. Nebo in Jordan. I use this to decorate the exterior of select pots.
Affordable pieces for table and cooking continue to be favorite forms. I am making lots of bottles. New metal pumps add to the beauty and function of lotion bottles. I am making bottles with added pouring spouts for olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Tall slender bottles could contain grains or coffee beans, but may add interest with a dried arrangement or fresh flowers. Come to the studio to see large, one of a kind vases.
Customers provide the best ideas. Please contact me for your special piece(s) of pottery. Work with me on design for your set of dishes or a planter for a favorite plant. Or a sacramental chalice and communion set.
